I had never been to Georgia before but she grew up there and that made me feel safe.
She showed me all of the places that mattered to her when she lived there.
She painted a picture of what her life was like before I knew her. Before anyone we know knew her.
This person had lived an entire life before I was a part of it.
I had also lived an entire life before I met her.
“What was it like where you grew up?” She asked me.
“I don’t remember.” I said, “I don’t remember what my life was like before you were in it.” I said.
“That’s sweet. You’re sweet.” She said sweetly.
She held my hand as we drove through her small Georgia town.
I hadn’t told her about the car accident that erased my memory a week before we met.
I keep forgetting to do that.
